Scientific conference on Sentosa

Today was the science conference in Sentosa, where my supervisor Valerie applied for a grant (and she got it - hooray!). It was pretty cool. The talks were very interesting, especially one about microfluidics for therapeutic diagnosis, the guy was a total entertainer! :)

The picture above is not the garden but the stage where the talks were given, beautifully decorated with a few thousands of flowers in front of it. After looking at the poster of the conference I was not sure whether to expect scientific talks or a Pink Floyd concert, but I would have been happy with either option.

This is my supervisor, Valerie, in front of her poster (and some anonymous really hot chick that accidentaly posed for the picture, too). She presented her work on tumor environment and the role of lymphocytes, in case anyone was wondering.

As you can see it is a regular conference center. The food was incredibly awesome, not to mention free, so I have eaten for the next two weeks in advance.

As I had mentioned, the conference took place in Sentosa, which is a surprisingly artifical island due to its primary function as a turist attraction. I will show you some pictures in the future posts, but just to give you an impression I show you what was directly above the convention center:

The Singapore Hard Rock Cafe. What else could it possibly have been?
